Netherlands v Montenegro

Scorers: Depay 38′ (P), 62′, Wijnaldum 70′, Gakpo 76′

In front of a sea of orange in Eindhoven, the Netherlands lunged forward in attack against Montenegro who proved to be quick on the counter.

The best chances for the Dutch fell to Davy Klaassen, Denzel Dumfries and Memphis Depay while the visitors had a call for a penalty after Adam Marušić went down but it went unanswered.

Barcelona’s frontman would eventually have the biggest impact on the match scoring on either side of halftime. Depay now has 30 international goals to his name.

Some shaky defending from the Dutch handed Montenegro multiple opportunities to get themselves back in the match but nobody could make the most of any chances.

Eventually, goals from Gini Wijnaldum and Cody Gekpo wrapped up the win for Louis van Gaal’s side.

Ukraine v France

Scorers: Shaparenko 44′; Martial 50′

France named a new-look lineup for their away match against Ukraine with a few big-name stars dropped to the bench.

It was a fairly equal game in terms of chances with either side having a decent amount of opportunities to break the deadlock during the first half.

Anthony Martial and Antoine Griezmann linked up but fell just short while Andriy Yarmolenko and Illia Zabarnyi almost found the net for the hosts.

Eventually, Ukraine took the lead right before halftime as Mykola Shaparenko beat Hugo Lloris from outside the area scoring his first international goal in the process.

After the break, Martial was able to level things up for the visitors with his second international goal (which comes five years after his first) to see both sides split the points.

The result also means France have now drawn five consecutive matches for the first time ever.

Scotland v Moldova

Scorers: Dykes 14′

Over at Hampden Park, Scotland hosted a battle against Moldova to try and close the gap in Group F.

Eager to earn a win, the initial breakthrough came at the hands of the hosts when Lyndon Dykes put the ball in the back of the net early on.

Nathan Patterson and Kevin Nisbet linked up at the edge of the box forcing goalkeeper Cristian Avram to stop a shot but Dykes was able to put the rebound home.

After the break, neither side could find a way to add to the score seeing the hosts hold on to an important three points.
