Wayne Rooney’s son, Kai, has shared his incredible 2021/22 stats for Manchester United on Instagram.
The 12-year-old signed for United in December 2020 and is the eldest son of the legendary striker.
And according to the youngster himself, he finished the season with 56 goals and a further 28 assists.
That’s some going.
Kai, who is left-footed, made headlines in April when he scored a brilliant goal in the Manchester derby against City.
Earlier in the campaign, he scored FOUR goals against Liverpool.
But his best performance of the season was surely against Stoke during a 6-3 victory. Kai scored three and produced three assists in an incredible individual display.
While he’s still very young and there’s an awful long way to go, you can’t blame United fans for being a little excited at the prospect of Kai following in his father’s footsteps.
Wayne, of course, is the club’s record goalscorer with 253 goals during his 13 years.
And it seems he’s handed down his goalscoring genetics to his son.
When Rooney was playing in the MLS with DC United, Kai represented Bethesda Soccer Club. But after his dad’s return to England, Kai signed for the Old Trafford club.
And Wayne couldn’t hide his pride.
“I’m a proud dad,” Rooney said.
“He’s been working hard, he obviously came over to the States with us to continue with his football. He went on trial with Manchester United and he’s impressed the coaches.
“He signed his forms yesterday so I’m delighted for him. He did have other options, other clubs to go to but he decided he wants to sign for Manchester United, so it was his decision and not mine.”
If he maintains his incredible goalscoring record, Kai could be making his debut for the first-team in four or five years’ time.
