Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes Manchester City will win the Premier League title despite Arsenal topping the table with only a handful of games left.
The former United captain believes that the pressure of being in the leading position could cause Arsenal to falter, but he wants them to win it.
The DC United manager will lead a Major League Soccer All-star side to face Arsenal in the United States in a pre-season game.
Rooney said (via CNN): “I think City will pip them to it. It is going to be intriguing. I think because Arsenal have not been in this position for a long time. It can be a lot of pressure to go with that.
“Once you start getting into the last ten games of the season, that is when the real pressure starts. And so I am really interested to see if they can sustain what they have been doing all season.”
Arsenal currently lead the Premier League champions Manchester City by eight points, although the Cityzens have a game in hand.
The Gunners are chasing their first Premier League title in 19 years since they went unbeaten in the 2003/24 campaign.
They look imperious going into the final stretch. With the lack of European and other domestic commitments, they will focus on bringing the title to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have stuck with manager Mikel Arteta through missing out on Champions League qualification and Europa League exits. They have trusted him in his process, and their time is now.
Will they have the fortitude to hold on to their lead at the summit of the league table? Only time will tell, but Rooney does not think so.
