Derby County are struggling at the bottom of the Championship table, having been handed a huge points deduction for entering administration – but boss Wayne Rooney has told the club’s official website that his side ‘will give everything’ for the rest of the campaign and not get ‘carried away’ after wins and losses.

The Rams have managed to pull off some superb results this season against the odds, picking up points against even some of the better teams in the league like Bournemouth.

If they hadn’t had a significant points deduction, the club would be in around mid-table by now but instead, they’re sat rock bottom of the division.

Quiz: Has Tom Lawrence ever scored a goal for Derby County at each of these 26 stadiums?

They’re back on a positive points total once again but it will still be hard for the side to avoid relegation this year considering the points that the sides above them have.

It doesn’t mean that Derby are giving up though and boss Wayne Rooney has told the club’s official website that his team plan to keep ‘giving everything’ in the rest of their fixtures this year – and that they also aren’t getting ‘carried away’ after both positive and negative results.

The former Man United man said: “The lads are giving everything under very difficult circumstances. It’s been a difficult season for everyone, but we are competing and trying in every game but unfortunately in the last game against Queens Park Rangers it wasn’t enough.

“The main thing for us right now is not getting carried away after each result. We will win games and we will lose games, and we will not get carried away with where we are in the table right now either.”

Derby have certainly put up a fight against all-comers in the Championship so far this season and will not be beaten easily. The manager has got his side playing some good football – and they might even be dreaming of a miracle and another potential second tier survival.

The Verdict

Wayne Rooney has worked wonders at Derby so far after a rocky start. He has got the team playing some good football and picking up some points despite their current situation.

It means that the Rams are certainly going to fight until the end of the campaign to stay up. They might not achieve it but they will certainly do themselves proud along the way.
