Bursting onto the scene (insert Micah Richards gag) at 16, Rooney instantly announced himself as a special player with a last-minute winner for Everton against champions Arsenal in the 2002/03 season. His England debut soon followed, as did a move to Manchester United after lighting up EURO 2004. The rest as they say is history.

With so many years playing at the pinnacle of the game and winning all the big club trophies, as well as now managing at DC United following a stint with Derby County (both of whom he also played for), many might be curious to know what Rooney’s net worth is. Throw in the sponsorship and endorsement contracts that have come his way too, and it makes for an interesting topic. All is revealed below.

Wayne Rooney Net Worth 2023

According to celebritynetworth.com, Rooney’s current net worth is $170 million, which is roughly £142 million, give or take a few hundred thousand pounds given the current fluctuating exchange rates.

For any normal person, this is astronomical wealth, but it makes sense with his lengthy career at the top of the game, as well as his multiple off-field deals. Major brands that Rooney has represented over the years include Nokia, Ford, Coca-Cola and of course Nike. He also has been the cover boy for several FIFA games, which no doubt further boost the coffers.

This also does not take into account his wife Colleen's own personal net worth, which Rebekah Vardy might reveal one day.

How many goals did Wayne Rooney score for Manchester United?

Rooney is the all-time top scorer for Manchester United, with 253 goals coming in his 559 appearances for the club. His first three goals came on a stunning debut in October 2004, where he banged in a Champions League hat trick against Fenerbache at Old Trafford.

The record had previously been set by Sir Bobby Charlton in the early 1970s, but Rooney passed his fellow United legend with a brilliant free kick against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in January 2017. What made the goal even more special was that it came in the last-minute with United trailing 1-0. A clutch goal from a clutch player.

His best goalscoring seasons for the club came in the 2009/10 and 2011/12 seasons, where he scored 34 goals in each. Oddly, both seasons saw United not win the Premier League title despite Rooney scoring 26 and 27 league goals respectively, via Transfermarkt. He did win the PFA Player of the Year award in the first of these seasons but an ankle injury cost him, United and England dear when it came to major honours that season.

Rooney is also arguably the best striker ever not to win the Premier League golden boot, with Didier Drogba and future teammate Robin Van Persie pipping him in these two seasons. His five Premier League titles and one Champions League medal probably make it up for it.

What other records did Rooney achieve in his playing career?

On top of the United record, Rooney is also the current co-holder of the England top scorer record with Harry Kane on 53 but one would expect that to be eclipsed in the very near future. These 53 goals came in 120 caps, which is a record number for an outfield English player. These came from his debut in 2003 to his final appearance in 2018.

What makes his United and England goal records even more impressive is that Rooney was never a pure out-and-out goalscorer. This is reflected in his status as the only player to score over 200 Premier League goals (208) and have over 100 Premier League assists (103), via Premier League.

If his time in the dugout is even half as successful as his playing days were, he’ll be a happy man.
