Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has hailed Erling Haaland’s start to life in the Premier League and predicts that Manchester City will beat Arsenal to the title.

Haaland, who is a doubt for Saturday’s crunch Premier League clash with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium due to a groin injury, has scored a remarkable 42 goals already this season for Manchester City.

The 22 year-old signed from Borussia Dortmund last summer and looks set to win the Premier League Golden Boot during his maiden campaign in England.

The Norwegian has already scored six hat-tricks for the Sky Blues, including back-to-back hat-tricks against both RB Leipzig and Burnley prior to the recent international break.

Haaland also marked his first Manchester Derby with a hat-trick, as both he and Phil Foden scored three goals in the 6-3 thrashing of Manchester United in October.

Now, former United forward Wayne Rooney, who scored 208 Premier League goals, has hailed Haaland’s start to life in the Premier League.

Haaland is “incredible, a player I love watching, he’s going to break quite a few records, that’s for sure,” said Rooney.

Rooney currently manages MLS side D.C United in Washington, and during an interview with US network CNN, revealed that he believes Manchester City will overturn an eight point gap and win a third successive Premier League title.

“I think City will pip them to it,” admitted the former Manchester United striker.

“It’s going to be intriguing. I think because Arsenal have not been in this position for a long time, and it can be a lot of pressure to go with that.

“Once you start getting into the last 10 games of the season that’s when the real pressure starts. And so I’m really interested to see if they can sustain what they’ve been doing all season.”

Manchester City resume their latest Premier League title bid on Saturday against Liverpool, with the Blues due to face Arsenal at the Etihad next month as well.

City have also played one game less than the Gunners, as City’s clash against West Ham was recently rescheduled for Wednesday 3rd May 2023.
