It was reported this week that Serie A side Atalanta remain interested in Arne Engels with reports in Italy suggesting that the Italians have already made concrete attempts in their quest to entice Celtic’s Young Player of the Year to Bergamo.
It’s no surprise that clubs are interested in the Belgian as Arne Engels is a talented player with great potential no matter what some doubters in our support might think or post on social media.

At things stand Arne Engels is Celtic most expensive signing at £11 million and perhaps expectations were a little high of then 20 year old, but he’s had a terrific season scoring 10 goals and registering 13 assists in 53 games this campaign.
He never arrived at Celtic as the finished article and that is the entire point that is somehow often overlooked. Engels was signed for his huge potential as a player Brendan Rodgers could develop over a number of seasons before much bigger offers that Atalanta’s comes our way.
And is the reason why the Italian side want to buy him after just one season at Celtic – so they can continue to develop the talented young midfielder then they’d sell him for an even bigger fee that Celtic will get if all goes to plan.
His first year at the club will have given him plenty of positive experiences and next year he will only get better. We want to keep our most talented players and Arne Engels is most certainly in that bracket. It would foolish to even contemplating moving him on so soon, and whatever you want to say about the Celtic Board, when out comes to transfer dealings they certainly aren’t that.

Arne Engels will become a terrific player for Celtic mark my words, and we should all be wanting him to remain a Celtic player for as long as possible. I’d imagine we’ll get two more years before he heads to a top club in one of the big five leagues. Enjoy him while we can.
