The Hornets sacked their Italian manager on Monday after he spent less than three months in charge.
Watford are now in the relegation zone, after losing to Norwich on Friday in the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports, Hodgson is close to agreeing a deal to take over until the end of the season.
The veteran coach has been out of work since he left Crystal Palace at the end of last term.
