Watford have returned to the bottom of the FA Women’s Championship table following a 3-0 home defeat to Bristol City this afternoon.

The Golden Girls were looking anything but golden as Coventry United pulled off a shock victory over promotion-chasing Durham to draw them level on points with the Hertfordshire club. That coupled with defeat today meant that Clinton Lancaster’s side were pulled back into the relegation zone to round off a miserable week which has also seen them slip to an emphatic 11-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

The visitors made an early breakthrough before the quarter hour mark when Watford tried to play out from the back but were caught by the Bristol City press. The ball was fed into captain Abi Harrison who cut onto her left and finished coolly to give her side the advantage.

Bristol City snatched the ball from the hosts once again 15 minutes later and they again duly punished the opposition. Harrison this time turned provider as she kept her composure to cut the ball back for Chloe Bull who finished low first time into the back of the net.

Watford managed to get themselves on top after the half-time interval as they enjoyed the majority of possession. However, any signs of a comeback were quickly extinguished courtesy of an exquisite volley from Bull. A ball into the Watford area was headed up into the cold November sky and it dropped kindly for the Bristol City forward who met it on the full and fired her effort into the far bottom corner to round off the scoring.

The defeat means that Watford now drop to the bottom of the table on goal difference while Bristol City continue their title push as they climb up to fifth following their comfortable victory.
