Over the past few years, Flamengo have been investing heavily in their youth sides, which has paid off in the greatest of fashions.
Some of world football’s great players, such as Vinicius Junior and Lucas Paquetá, have come out of the Flamengo academy in recent years.
However, at this moment, the most coveted jewel is goalkeeper Hugo Souza, who had remarkable success as a fill-in starter last season after starting the season as the club’s fourth-string option.
Of course, Flamengo still consider Diego Alves their number one option.
The 22-year-old has received several proposals from Europe and according to journalist Venê Casagrande, newly-promoted Premier League side Watford are the latest to initiate conversations for the youngster.
At the moment, the Hornets are just monitoring the athlete and seeing what the conditions would have to be for him to arrive at Vicarage Road.
Last month, Ajax reportedly had an €8m bid for Souza swiftly rejected, with the Rubro-Negro board claiming that the Amsterdam giants did not submit an offer close to his actual value.
