Watford's relegation from the Premier League has been confirmed following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Hornets have endured a miserable season, with a run of eight straight defeats leading up to the Palace game all-but-confirming their return to the second-tier.

They arrived at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon knowing that only a combination of winning each of their four remaining matches and results going almost impossibly in their favour would save them.

However, they failed to hold up their end of the bargain. The afternoon got off to a terrible start when WIlfried Zaha tucked home a penalty just before the half-hour, and Palace should have been more than one goal up at half time.

Things went from bad to worse as Hassane Kamara was given his marching orders with 20 minutes to go for persistent fouling, effectively ending the Hornets' hopes of victory and survival.

Watford started the season with Xisco Munoz in the dugout, but he was shown the door in October after an inauspicious start. Claudio Ranieri then took the reigns until January before Roy Hodgson was instilled until the end of the season.

A Premier League survival specialist, he has failed to weave his magic at Vicarage Road, overseeing a terrible run of two wins, two draws and 11 defeats.

Hodgson has already confirmed he will be heading back into retirement at the end of the season and Watford have already begun their search for his successor. 90min understands that former boss Slavisa Jokanovic is one name under consideration.
