Another club has been linked with an in-demand Hornets player
Girona are interested in signing Watford winger Yaser Asprilla in the summer transfer window.
That's according to Spanish journalist Nil Sola, who says that the player himself is keen on the move to La Liga.
After standing out for the Hornets during the 2023/24 season, there has been plenty of speculation around the future of Asprilla this summer.
Recent reports from The Athletic claimed that French side Rennes had agreed to sign the winger for £25million, but that a deadline to do the deal expired without the move being completed.
But despite that, it seems there is still a chance that Asprilla will be on his way out of Watford before the end of the month.
As per this latest update, Girona are now eyeing up a move to sign the winger from the Hornets this month.
It is thought that the Spanish side are set to make a "huge investment" to sign a new winger this month, and have made Asprilla their priority target in that area.
However, it is suggested that their pursuit of the 20-year-old could be complicated by competition for his services from elsewhere, and they have alternative targets in Gustavo Nunes and Jhon Arias.
Even so, Asprilla himself is said to be keen on the move from Watford to Girona this summer, which could aid the Spanish side's attempts to get a deal done.
As things stand, there are still four years remaining on the winger's contract with the Hornets, securing his future at the club until the end of the 2027/28 season.
That, of course, puts the Championship club in a strong position to respond to any offers that come in for the player this summer.
Since joining Watford from Envigado in his native Colombia in January 2022, Asprilla has made 86 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring seven goals and providing ten assists.
However, he has not been involved in their 3-2 Championship win over Millwall, or 5-0 thrashing of MK Dons in the Carabao Cup at the start of this season.
Tom Cleverley's side are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they host Stoke City at Vicarage Road.
It is hard not to feel as though the departure of Asprilla from Vicarage Road this summer would be a blow for the Hornets.
The Colombian was one of the standout performers for the club in an otherwise underwhelming 2023/24 campaign.
As a result, he would surely be a key player for Watford if he is to stick around this season, although it seems it will be hard for them to retain his services.
With Girona set to make their Champions League debut this season, you can see why this would be an appealing move, and they also seem to have the funds available to do a deal.
It may, therefore, not be a huge surprise if Asprilla does move on from the Hornets in the next couple of weeks.
However, Watford can at least take hope from their start to the season without him, and his sale would bring in plenty of funds to be reinvested in the rest of the first-team squad.
