Watford are locked in talks to sign Brazilian winger Antony from Portuguese side Arouca according to reporter Jacque Talbot.

The Hornets have been busy strengthening their side this January with new sporting director Ben Manga starting his tenure at the club productively. And, it appears Antony is poised to join, as the update claims personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

It would be the second signing from Portugal this week, with Henrique Araujo joining on loan until the end of the season having signed from Benfica.

The 21-year-old has made 16 appearances this season and has scored three times, while providing one assist with Arouca sitting sixth in the Primeira Liga.

He would be Watford’s fifth signing of the January transfer window, joining Ismael Kone, Joao Ferreira, Ryan Porteous, Matheus Martins and Henrique Araujo.

Another attacking signing in the mould of Antony would give Slaven Bilic further depth in the final third, something they lacked in the first half of the season which contributed in some underwhelming performances.

The Verdict

It’s been a productive transfer window for Watford so far.

They desperately needed to add to the squad as performances before the January transfer window left a lot to be desired. Not only that, but there was a heavy reliance on Joao Pedro to produce and with him picking up an injury, it was always going to be a struggle.

Now, with these additional signings and the possibility of Antony coming in, Watford have plenty of options which will no doubt please Bilic as he looks to improve results and performances ahead of a huge second half of the season for his side.
