EFL Championship side Watford FC have failed in their attempt to sign Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont (26) on loan, according to Ouest-France. Lafont has been told to find himself a new club during the winter transfer window after falling down the pecking order under the tutelage of Antoine Kombouaré. Swedish goalkeeper Patrik Carlgren is now the understudy of Anthony Lopes between the Nantes sticks. Since Lopes’ arrival as Nantes’ No. 1, Les Canaris are unbeaten.

Lafont has been dropped from Nantes’ matchday squad since the turn of the year. Watford reportedly offered Nantes a way out for Lafont, but the clubs reportedly failed to strike an agreement reporting Lafont’s wage coverage. The Hornets eventually walked out of the deal to sign Norwegian goalie Egil Selvik. Ouest-France understands Lafont could still leave Nantes this winter transfer window.
