Watching Sunday’s match in London with some Nottingham Forest fans – Interesting

I spent Saturday afternoon down in East Dulwich watching Hamlets despatch Potters Bar 3-1, in the company of our friends who are Nottingham Forest fans.

My Notts mate Haddock confidently telling me his man friend Chris Wood will once again bang in a hat-trick (He loves “Woody”).

Sunday arrives and Haddock and his family hadn’t called in reinforcements for back up this time.

Instead, me and my teenage lad Chuks are in Metropolis on Albert Embankment with our own back up, a couple of Newcastle supporters ending their long weekend in London after visiting Theatre land, Dulwich Hamlet and now under the railway arches to watch our team play.

First half we have some good play and some good movement which fills me and the lad with confidence, though outraged that their nasty piece of work Yates is still on the pitch. Haddock reckons he does that nasty stuff every game and gets away with it (probably because he looks like a baby-faced soft lad but he still has elbows), the Nottingham Forest fans in our company love it. He gets away with it, as they say look at how many bookings he has had. That is a reflection on the standard of refereeing in my opinion.

I have seen players like him over the years and they are not top quality players, instead having to create a space for themselves through their on-field behaviour, which home supporters tend to love.

Newcastle are then undone by a simple set-play and we lose the Forest man who has a simple head in. Olive, Morris and their gobby dad are ecstatic in their Forest colours.

Chuks in his Bruno 39 shirt is gutted but I tell him we are not done here. We were in control and let it slip momentarily.

Second half we crank it up and I say to Haddock, it’s only a matter of time before we have the goal. He begrudgingly agrees as the pressure piles on and sure enough we get that equaliser.

It is one-way traffic after that but Forest have some little counter-attacks in typical Nuno style, though after the second goal I know we are done here and Nuno in desperation chucks forward players on. Forest are finished.

Harvey Barnes tops it off with a trademark goal and Haddock refers to him as a Leicester such and such. Oooh, East Midlands nastiness!

At half-time Haddock showed me these messages from another Forest fan:
