Eddie Howe watching on as Wednesday proved a very decent pre-season experience.

The home (Japan) based and travelling Newcastle United fans watching on as their team put on a very good performance.

Particularly considering the heat, humidity and the fact that whilst Newcastle’s players are still getting up to full fitness, it is actually mid-season in the domestic league in Japan, the season running until December.

Eddie Howe happy to get minutes into the legs of his available players and no apparent extra injuries picked up.

However, on top of that, a very good team display and some impressive individual showings, plus some excellent attacking play and finishing.

Not to mention, these pre-season matches summing up just what a huge miss Nick Pope was last season after getting injured at the start of December 2023.

The United number one superb again, making some smart saves and none better than from the spot-kick that would have given Urawa Red Diamonds an undeserved 2-1 lead.

A terrible decision from the referee to award the penalty, as Livramento’s foul was clearly outside the box. As you can see from these highlights below.

Great to see Alexander Isak make it three goals in three friendlies so far, whilst for all of the Newcastle United fans who see a new first-choice right winger as an absolute necessity, fair play to Jacob Murphy with two goals and an assist, he has now scored four goals in the three friendlies to date.

A great start to the football in Japan, now we look forward to Yokohama F Marinos on Saturday, a 7pm kick-off local time and 11am back in the UK.
