Barcelona are doing everything possible to ensure that their return to the Spotify Camp Nou happens in time for this season’s Champions League.

Just hours before the draw in Monaco, the residents of the Les Corts neighbourhood were treated to an emotional surprise, as sound tests inside the renovated stadium.

For the first time since construction began, the Champions League anthem echoed loudly across the area, signalling Barça’s clear intention to bring European nights back home.

What’s the latest with Camp Nou?

The club has already informed UEFA that the Spotify Camp Nou is the chosen venue for the group stage of the 2025/26 edition. However, everything still depends on obtaining the final occupancy licence.

The first stage of construction is close to securing the certificate that would allow partial opening of the stadium.

If approved, the Gol Sud and the Tribuna stands will be available, giving the stadium a limited capacity of around 27,000 fans.

To ease the pressure, Barcelona have requested that their first Champions League game be played away from home.

This would give the club a few more weeks to finalise approvals and prepare the stadium for its European debut, which could then take place in late September or early October.

UEFA have no issue with this proposal, as long as Barça confirm their definitive stadium plans by 28 August, which is today.

Montjuic remains the backup option

While Camp Nou is the dream scenario, Barça are not taking risks. A backup plan has already been activated with the Estadi Olímpic Lluis Companys at Montjuic.

An agreement with BSM secures the licence to use the ground until February, covering both the league stage and potential knockout rounds if needed.

For fans, the wait is almost over. Whether at Montjuic or back at the newly opened Camp Nou, the Champions League anthem will soon be heard again with Barça ready to chase glory under the lights.
