Battle of the underdogs

A game for the neutrals, for whoever wins will probably become the side most neutrals would love to see go all the way.

Both sides had incredible starts to the season, with Union well in the Bundesliga top four mix and St Pauli top of second tier as 2022 came to town.

They’ve both struggled since, with Union losing three in a row before last weekend and St Pauli dropping to third in their league since knocking Borussia Dortmund out of the Pokal in January.

A golden opportunity

Times have been tough on traditional giants Hamburg and midtable outfit Karlsruhe but this — the only all 2. Bundesliga clash of the round — presents a shot at glory.

Hamburg are unbeaten in the last seven games (including two in the Pokal) between the sides and go into this one as favourites.

The heavy favourites head away

Hannover’s reward for beating Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-0 in the last round? The visit of heavy-hitters RB Leipzig.

Die Roten Bullen are still chasing their first ever major trophy but Hannover will be up for the test after enjoying an upset last time out.

The final all-Bundesliga clash

The only quarter-final between two Bundesliga teams, the winner of this will be really fancying their chances to win the entire competition.

These opportunities don’t come around often. Bochum, in the Bundesliga this season for the first time since 2010, have reached DFB Pokal final twice (1968, 1988) and lost both times.

SC Freiburg have become top tier mainstays but reached the Pokal semi-finals just once, losing to rivals Stuttgart in 2013. This is a huge chance for both sides.
