Barcelona make it through to the Spanish Super Cup Final in incredible circumstances after beating Real Sociedad on penalties. This was an absolute footballing classic, with both sides having great chances to win the game over the 90 and the 120 minute match, but it was Marc-André ter Stegen who was the hero of the hour, pulling off heroics during the game, and then of course in the penalty shoot-out.
Barcelona went into the match without star man Lionel Messi, as he was struggling with discomfort, and also without starting right-back Sergiño Dest, but battled on and went into the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to Frenkie de Jong’s excellent header. But ‘La Real’ soon levelled the scores after Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty just after the restart, and from then until the end of extra time, both sides had great opportunities to win the game, with an absolute classic in the Spanish Super Cup Semi-Finals playing out.
But it was ter Stegen, who’s penalty-saving heroics got Barça through in the end, and finally Riqui Puig who scored the winning penalty for Barcelona which saw us secure our spot in the Super Cup final this Sunday.
