Watch out, Bayern! Aston Villa could snatch Araujo away from his dream player

Last winter, FC Bayern tried to prise Ronald Araujo away from FC Barcelona with a mega offer. The German record champions may be planning another attempt next summer. However, there appears to be further competition for the centre-back from the Premier League.

It would have been the top transfer of the last winter transfer window: Bayern are rumoured to have offered €80 million for Ronald Araujo. However, Barca – and coach Xavi in particular – are said to have categorically ruled out a move for the defensive specialist and therefore rejected the offer. However, the Munich club could make another attempt in the summer. According to reports, the Bayern bosses are still planning to sign a top centre-back.

However,as the Spanish newspaper Sport reports, Bayern are facing strong financial competition from the Premier League. Aston Villa are currently preparing an official bid for the Uruguayan. The club, coached by Unai Emery, finished the season in a sensational fourth place in the table and will therefore take part in the Champions League next season.

Previously, reports had already made the rounds that Manchester United were planning to sign Araujo. Chelsea FC are also said to be in talks with the Uruguayan international’s advisors.

Barca departure or extension?

However, it is currently unclear whether FC Barcelona would be prepared to let their regular centre-back leave. The club’s management has recently repeatedly stated that it plans to stay with Araujo in the long term.

One thing is clear: the financially strapped club is likely to be in urgent need of transfer income in order to be able to sign expensive players in the summer.

Munich’s transfer planning, on the other hand, is likely to depend above all on the ideas of the new coach. According to the latest media reports, Vincent Kompany is on the verge of signing for FC Bayern.
