The very final one of six pre-season matches ahead of the new Premier League season that kicks off next weekend against Southampton.

The crowd of 33,760 seeing a tough encounter, against a Brest side who will be playing Champions League football next season, having finished third in Ligue 1 in 2023/24.

With this the only Brest friendly in their final two weeks of preparation before they also kick off their league season next Saturday, fair to say it was a tougher task than Girona the night before. The Spanish side kicking off against Bournemouth (the Cherries won 3-2) on Saturday only around 18 hours after the final whistle on their game at SJP.

A great Harvey Barnes goal winning this match against Brest, though another great run and finish from Will Osula shortly afterwards, was he really offside?

I thought Bruno Guimaraes was a stand out on Saturday and I really like the look of Lloyd Kelly. I had no idea his passing ability was so good. I think I am now seeing why Eddie Howe rates him so highly, a very good defender of course as well.

Final scoreline:

Newcastle 1 Brest 0
