Juventus winger Nico Gonzalez was shown a straight red card in the 95th minute of Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Uruguay in World Cup qualification on Friday evening over a high boot incident which will rule him out of his country’s upcoming match against Brazil.

Gonzalez was one of several Serie A players involved in Argentina’s win over Uruguay: Roma’s Leandro Paredes started, Nico Paz of Como, Benja Dominguez and Santiago Castro of Bologna were unused substitutes, while Matias Olivera lined up at left-back for Uruguay.

It was Lyon’s Thiago Almada who scored the only goal of the game for Argentina, but the action continued right until the dying moments.

While contesting with former Cagliari man Nahitan Nandez  in the final moments of second half stoppage time, Nico Gonzalez was shown a straight red card for a high boot.

The Juventus winger felt he had made a fair play for the ball, and immediately went to check on his opponent after the contact, but looked surprised to have been shown a straight red card.

As last night’s game was a World Cup qualifier, Nico Gonzalez will have to sit out of the next Argentina match, which again comes in World Cup qualification, against Brazil on Wednesday.
