Former Barcelona pair Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez both managed to find the net, in an action-packed friendly outing on Monday.
The South American duo, close friends since their time in Catalunya, are of course now teammates once more, after Suárez opted to link up with Messi’s Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.
Ahead of the new season getting underway stateside next month, Inter, in turn, have begun their schedule of friendly outings, to build fitness and cohesion on the pitch.
On Monday, as much continued by way of a meeting with Saudi giants Al-Hilal.
The matchup featured a whole host of high-profile names, from Rúben Neves, Sergej Milinković-Savić, and Aleksandar Mitrović on the side of the Riyadh hosts, to former Barcelona quartet Messi, Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
When all was said and done, it was Al-Hilal who emerged on the right side of a 4-3 scoreline.
But both Messi, and Suárez, were nevertheless sure to make their mark.
First, late in the first-half, the latter broke free at the back post, to round out a flowing Inter Miami move:
And it was the turn of Messi a short time later, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner making no mistake with a trademark spot-kick into the top corner:
Just the beginning of what is no doubt set to prove a fruitful campaign for two of European football’s finest-ever attackers…
