Barcelona will be confirmed as La Liga champions if they defeat Espanyol, and they are on course to do so after taking the lead against their local rivals at the RCDE Stadium.
It has been a frustrating evening for the league leaders, who were poor in the first half (which was delayed temporarily due to an incident outside the stadium). Hansi Flick made two changes in the opening stages of the second period, and that helped Barcelona towards the breakthrough, which was done in spectacular fashion by Lamine Yamal.
Espanyol were reduced to 10 men on 79 minutes as Leandro Cabrera saw red for striking Lamine Yamal, and the 17-year-old is now involved again for Barcelona’s second. After wonderful work, he has set up Fermin Lopez to double the advantage for Flick’s side.
It is a wonderful achievement for Barcelona to win La Liga, and also a domestic treble. They were written off in pre-season, but they have undoubtedly been the best club in Spain.
