Mikel Arteta admits he felt sorry for Mauricio Pochettino after his Chelsea side were thrashed 5-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Leandro Trossard’s opening goal was followed by doubles from both Ben White and former Chelsea striker Kai Havertz as the Gunners moved four points clear of Manchester City, who have two games in hand, at the top of the Premier League table.

Arteta spoke of his appreciation for the Chelsea boss ahead of the game, with the two having played together at PSG during their careers.

And the Arsenal boss admits it was difficult not to feel sympathy for his friend during the game.

“[I have] all the sympathy in the world in everything that he has been through and is doing,” Arteta said.

“I have been on the other side. I think he is doing a good job. When I analysed them for the last seven games, they deserved to win every match.

“When you talk about sympathy and someone I love and admire. For sure, I want the best for him.”
