Mikel Arteta says he is hoping both Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka will be fit to face Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

The Gunners go into the Champions League quarter final second leg clash level after drawing the first game at the Emirates 2-2.

Odegaard did not complete the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday and was replaced late on.

But both he and Saka were in team training ahead of the clash and Arteta is hoping both will be ready to play despite the quick turnaround.

“Hopefully yeah,” Arteta said when asked if they could be involved.

“Today, obviously, we only had less than 48 hours to recover from the game and we’ve done very little training so we’ll assess them tomorrow and see how they are.”

Arteta also backed defender Oleksandr Zinchenko after the Ukrainian came in for criticism following his performance in the loss to Aston Villa.

“We love Alex, he has given us so much,” he said.

“He has given us a lot and he is a player with different qualities, with an unbelievable courage to play football in any circumstances.

“As we always demand, stay with our players, give them support because, for sure, they are going to perform better.”
