Liverpool have been in top form this season, but after a weekend off, they’ll head into their Champions League first-leg matchup against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes either refreshed or a bit out of rhythm.

Nonetheless, one Liverpool player revealed the word he used when discovering that the Reds would face the Parisians in the Round of 16. Before shifting their focus to Europe, Liverpool kept their momentum going with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday.

PSG, meanwhile, looked dominant over the weekend, rolling to a 4-1 win over LOSC Lille with all four goals coming in the first half. Arne Slot’s team comes into this match unbeaten in their last five games, with three wins and two draws.

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique’s squad is riding a 10-match winning streak and hasn’t lost in 22 games across all competitions. As a result, this matchup pins two teams in top form this late in the 2024-25 season.

The Reds secured an automatic spot in the Champions League last 16 by finishing first in the 36-team opening phase, while Wednesday’s hosts had to go through the playoff round after placing 15th.

Luis Enrique’s squad made a statement in that round, dominating fellow French club Stade Brestois with a staggering 10-0 aggregate win over two legs.

Ahead of the first 90 minutes, Wataru Endo spoke to the press on Tuesday and revealed the one word he used when he found out that it would be a PSG-Liverpool clash.

“Of course, I saw the draw and when I saw the draw I was very excited because PSG are a very good team and they have been playing so well so far,” Endo said (h/t Liverpoolfc.com). “I knew it was going to be a very tough game but I think everyone is excited to play against PSG.”
