Aaron Wan-Bissaka will get a chance to impress new manager Erik ten Hag in pre-season this summer.

After another disappointing season, United fans are asking who the regular starter at right-back next season will be – because neither Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Diogo Dalot took their opportunities last season.

Meanwhile, United are in the hunt to sign a new left-back…

Goal understands that once Ten Hag assesses Wan-Bissaka over the coming weeks, the Dutchman will make a final decision over his future.

James Robson writes: “There are major doubts as to whether the £50m right back will be suited to Ten Hag’s system, due to his weakness going forward.

“Diogo Dalot has been told he is part of the new manager’s plans, while Dumfries is a potential target.

“But Wan-Bissaka will be given the chance to impress in pre-season before a final decision is made.”

Of course, this backs up a recent report from ESPN which states that Ten Hag had a chat with his group of players at training on Monday morning and told them they were given a clean slate after last season.

To implement his own high standards, Ten Hag must also give the players a lift to truly get the best out of them, which is something Ralf Rangnick failed to do after replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer, who brought Wan-Bissaka to Old Trafford, may not regret his decision to do so – but most people see it as another example of poor recruitment.

It goes without saying that Ten Hag needs to buy well. We hope he gets the right backing from the recruitment team.
