Wan-Bissaka family explain why they support Arsenal | OneFootball

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will face Arsenal with Manchester United on Wednesday night, but his family are all fans of the home side.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s family moved to England and London before he was born, and the Manchester United full-back was born in Croydon. Growing up, his family all supported Arsenal, despite Wan-Bissaka playing in the Crystal Palace academy.

“We have been supporting Arsenal since we saw Thierry Henry and how good he was,” the right-back’s father explained. “When we came to this country, Thierry Henry was good. Everyone knew [him] at that time.

“When he (Aaron) was growing up, I would call him Thierry Henry. When we supported Arsenal games, we must all sit down and watch everything.”

Now the 22-year-old is set to play at the Emirates Stadium, but for the away side. It’s fair to say this creates a bit of a conflict of interests for his family watching on.

“When you play against Arsenal, it’s going to be a sticky one for me,” Aaron’s brother Kevin told him. “I’ll take a draw.”

Wan-Bissaka’s father did admit he’d rather his son plays well than Arsenal get the win. Still, it’s clear there are going to be some mixed emotions regardless of the final score.

Arsenal are likely to start a right-back from their own academy on Wednesday, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles playing the position in recent weeks. Maitland-Niles joined the club at the age of six and is getting a run of games in Hector Bellerin’s absence.

It’s up to the Arsenal man to win the battle of the London-born right-backs on the night.
