Kyle Walker says that winning the Champions League with Milan would be a ‘dream come true’ and has reassured the press that he didn’t have any regrets about joining the Rossoneri even when the team were trailing 2-1 in injury time against Parma in Serie A on Sunday.

The 93-time England international joined Milan on loan with an option to buy from Manchester City on Friday and sat down for his introductory press conference on Monday afternoon.

He was in the stands for the Parma match in San Siro over the weekend, and could potentially be in line for his league debut in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter later this week.

Speaking to the press for the first time since his move to Italy, Walker explained why it was he decided to join Milan when he had options elsewhere.

“Obviously I spoke with Zlatan (Ibrahimovic), he explained lots of different things to me, he told me about the great things we’re trying to achieve here.

“We talked about the Super Cup, which was a good start. It’s not perfect in terms of the league, but there’s still a chance in the Champions League.

“I hope to contribute with my experience and leadership and to help Milan return to where it wants to be.

“Winning the Champions League would be a dream come true: I have experienced it in a great final with City.”

Walker gave a coy response when it was suggested that he might have a Champions League bonus clause in his contract: “It doesn’t make a difference, the real bonus is winning the Champions League. I play football because of the passion and I want to win here with Milan,” he said.

Asked what he knows about Serie A and football in Italy generally, Walker replied: “There are great teams like Milan, Juve, Inter, teams who want to do well.

“My time in the Premier League has been positive, and now I get to come to a great team here. I have already spoken to a few players, it’s nice for me to be here in Serie A.”

No regrets after chaotic Parma win

Walker also gave his thoughts after watching Milan’s comeback victory against Milan on Sunday. The Rossoneri had trailed 2-1 in the 91st minute before claiming a 3-2 win by full-time.

“The attitude at the end is needed for the whole 90 minutes, you need that attitude to win the Champions League,” Walker said.

“I noticed a big difference in terms of desire and energy from the first half compared to the second 45. We need leaders on the pitch, you need that attitude from the coach to be a good team.”

And did he have any regrets while watching Milan’s rollercoaster ride against Parma?

“No, it’s football. Things happen during games, but we got the win that we wanted, needed, by the final whistle. We’ve got an important game on Wednesday and the derby on Sunday, so it was an important step to make sure we start this week in the best way possible.”
