Wales held Switzerland to a 1-1 draw in Baku, leaving Italy in charge of Group A.
Goals from Breel Embolo and Kieffer Moore ensured the sides couldn’t be separated over 90 minutes.
Scorers: Moore 74′; Embolo 49′
Wales went closest to going ahead when Kieffer Moore sent a looping header towards goal – only for Yann Sommer to save brilliantly at full stretch.
But Switzerland responded moments later with Danny Ward saving well from Fabian Schär, before Haris Seferović fired over from close range before half time.
The deadlock was eventually broken when Breel Embolo rose highest to head home Xherdan Shaqiri’s corner.
Embolo almost doubled his tally but placed another curling effort just wide, before Wales found their equaliser when Moore guided a brilliant header past Yan Sommer.
Second half substitute Mario Gavranović thought he’d netted a late winner for Switzerland but his strike was correctly ruled out for offside.
Gavranović tested Ward again who produced another impressive fingertip save, ensuring the shares were spoiled at the Olympic Stadium.
