Paul Pogba sends message to Manchester United teammates after embarrassing Liverpool display

According to the player’s official Instagram account (h/t The Metro), Paul Pogba has urged his Manchester United teammates to ‘step up’ after the poor performance against Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co were handed a reality check on Sunday as their arch-enemies in English football came to Old Trafford and picked them apart. Mohammed Salah’s hattrick was the headline but the sheer downfall of the Red Devils was the story that caught the attention.

While United could have gone down fighting, those chances were ruined after Paul Pogba was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Naby Keita, who required the help of a stretcher to get off the pitch.

Although there was doubt initially to the viciousness of the challenge, VAR helped Anthony Taylor send the Frenchman into the tunnel just 15 minutes after he came into the game as a substitute.

The red card means that the 28-year-old will now be ineligible to face Tottenham Hotspur next weekend as well as Manchester City in two weeks. However, despite all of this, Pogba has sent a message to his teammates via his official Instagram account. It read (h/t The Metro):

‘No time to feel sorry for ourselves. Wake up, step up and make the next days better.’

Pogba might as well have been sending the message to himself given his sheer lack of effort against Liverpool. The Frenchman gave the ball away for the Reds’ fifth goal and made the silly challenge that made his team’s task all the more hard. Some self-introspection will do him good.

The midfielder was benched for a second consecutive game but was able to make an impact against Atalanta in mid-week. His seven assists in the opening two months ensured that the Manchester-based outfit were in the hunt for the league title.

However, the French international will now have to watch his mates from the dug-out for the next couple of weeks but will be geared up to face Atalanta at the Bergamo Stadium in a week.
