According to De Telegraaf, RKC Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen has returned to full training, exactly a month after his serious collision with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey. The 28-year-old received a wonderful reception from his teammates as he returned to the training pitch.

Last month’s match between Waalwijk and Ajax was abandoned in the 84th minute after Vaessen collided head-first with Brian Brobbey. The Dutch goalkeeper was knocked unconscious and he remained motionless as he was treated on the pitch. Vaessen regained consciousness while being taken off on a stretcher. Thankfully, the shot-stopper is close to reaching full fitness.

Etienne Vaessen wore a helmet during training. It was similar headgear that former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Peter Čech wore to protect himself during the final years of his playing career. It is expected that Vaessen will continue to wear the helmet in matches this season. It’s still unknown as to when he’ll return to matches, but Waalwijk will be hopeful that he’ll be back in action soon.
