Chivas manager Víctor Manuel Vucetich has backed the club’s emerging talent to step into the breach in the absence of any senior stars during the upcoming season.

The Flock have been quiet in the transfer market this summer as they place their trust in academy graduates to develop into quality first-team regulars.

“We know that absences are extremely important for us, but there is full confidence in this team. We have elements that have been giving a very good performance, with a lot of capacity,” Vucetich told Chivas TV (via TUDN).

“Sometimes people need to see new players, new faces, make that change and at this moment, I consider that there are three or four elements with 18, 19 years that are going in a very positive way to be able to achieve objectives and transcend with this team.”

Vucetich added that he is unsure if veteran centre-back Hiram Mier will be fully fit in time for the start of the campaign next weekend.

“I don’t know if he’s going to be 100% ready for Matchday 1, but he is going to be ready to be on the bench,” ‘King Midas’ said.

“He’s been working, he hasn’t been given much participation in the (pre-season) games.”

Chivas will begin the Apertura with a home game against Atlético San Luis on Saturday.
