Barcelona appear to be once again getting serious about signing Nico Williams this summer, almost 12 months after missing out on the attacker.
Nico has emerged as one of the club’s top targets, with some of the Barcelona players, including Lamine Yamal, keen on playing alongside the Spanish international.
Nico himself is quite close with several Barcelona players and has reportedly pleaded with them to ‘take him’ to Catalonia.
Yamal, for one, is already working behind the scenes to try and make the Nico transfer happen.
However, not everyone in the Barcelona camp appears to be on board with the idea of signing Nico Williams this summer.
As reported by Gerard Romero, there are concerns within parts of the club’s management about the nature of the deal, particularly due to Nico’s close personal relationships with several current players.
Some fear that his arrival could recreate an atmosphere similar to the “friends club” that existed during the later years of the Messi era.

Back then, while camaraderie thrived during good times, cracks emerged when things didn’t go as planned, leading to dressing room divisions and a lack of accountability.
The club are keen to avoid a repeat of such dynamics.
While no one questions Nico’s talent or fit within the team tactically, the worry is that too many close friendships could complicate professional expectations and the internal culture, especially under a new manager like Hansi Flick, who prioritises discipline and structure.
These are only internal discussions for now, and they haven’t derailed the club’s pursuit, but they do reveal that the Nico deal is not viewed as a universally perfect fit.
Barcelona, therefore, may have a decision to make as they look to choose between Nico and Luis Diaz, their other top attacking target.
