The German Football Association (DFB) has announced a contract extension for Rudi Völler.
The 64-year-old's deal as the DFB's director of professional football has been extended by a further two years until 2028. This aligns his contract length with that of Germany's head coach, Julian Nagelsmann.
“The national team and the entire DFB team have become very close to my heart. The inspiring European Championship on home soil, of course, but above all working with Julian Nagelsmann has played a decisive role in this,” said Völler.
“I am very much looking forward to continuing along the same path with Julian and his team until the next European Championship - the path back to sporting success and into the hearts of the fans in Germany. We have already come a long way. But we are not yet where we want to be. We have the highest expectations and ambitions, and we believe we can achieve them with this inspiring team.”
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf commented:
“Rudi Völler was and is a very important part of the national team's return to success after three disappointing tournaments. He is of central importance to the national coach, his team and the entire DFB. That's why it was so important for me personally to convince Rudi to continue working with me after Julian's extension.”
“Together they have created a new euphoria around the national team. So it was clear to me: ‘Never change a winning team.’ I am delighted that this combination will continue.”
