Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema has ended rumours that she will leave the club by signing a new deal in north London.
The all-time top scorer in the Women’s Super League, Miedema’s existing deal was due to expire this summer and she had been heavily linked with a move to Women’s Champions League holders Barcelona.
However, she has now opted to remain at Arsenal.
The Gunners finished second in the WSL in 2021/22, one point behind champions Chelsea, with Miedema netting 14 goals and assisting a further eight in 22 appearances.
“I think the most beautiful thing about the game is building something with a team and with people around you that you really want to be around,” Miedema told the club’s official website.
“I do feel like I have got that at Arsenal. I feel like for me, winning titles with Arsenal will mean a lot more to me than winning them with another club at the moment. And that’s what I obviously hope to achieve with Arsenal.”
The 25-year-old now has 117 Arsenal goals in 144 matches across all competitions, including a record 72 goals in the WSL since joining the club in 2017.
Miedema is also the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer, men’s and women’s, with 92 goals in 108 international appearances.
