Vivianne Miedema has been on fire for Arsenal this season. As well as leading the WSL goalscoring charts with 20 she is also second in the assists league with nine.

Currently away on international duty with the Netherlands, she netted again for her country last week when she slotted past Mexico to take her to 56 goals at senior international level in just 73 games.

Added to her record at youth level for the Netherlands, where she scored 43 goals, Miedema is now just one short of 100 and will be looking to complete that milestone on Tuesday evening when the Dutch face Chile.

“I read somewhere this week that I can make my 100th goal for the Netherlands,” Miedema modestly told the press ahead of the game. “I’m not really working on that. I am only 22 years old and I still have all the time. I think the records will come.”

Miedema is also just four goals away from becoming the Netherlands undisputed all-time leading goalscorer. The current record holder is Manon Melis who scored 59 goals, albeit from almost double the number of matches.

The forward was also named Women’s Player of the Year at the London Football Awards back in February.

Miedema was born in Hoogeveen in the Netherlands in 1996 and signed for SC Heerenveen at 14. She made her debut at 15 and won top goalscorer in BeNe League for 2013/14 with 41 goals in 26 games.

In September 2013, the then-teenager made her senior debut for the Netherlands against Albania.

She went on to become top scorer at the 2014 UEFA u19 Championship and also collected the Golden Player award.

Miedema was firmly established as one of her country’s integral players before she was 21.

The forward spent three years at SC Heerenveen, scoring a whopping 78 goals in 69 appearances before moving on to Bayern Munich in June 2014.

In 2014/15, Miedema’s Bayern side went unbeaten in the Bundesliga and won their first title since 1976.

She signed for Arsenal in May 2017.
