The Athletic are reporting that Vivianne Miedema and Arsenal are close to agreeing a new one-year extension that would keep her at the club next season.

With the FA WSL now finished, all eyes turned to Vivianne Miedema, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, due to the fact her contract has now expired.

The Athletic have been informed that the forward was filming content at the Emirates that will be used alongside an announcement of the extension later this week.

Miedema wants a chance to win the Champions League, a competition Arsenal qualified for next season due to their second-place finish in the league.

Back in March, Miedema told Algemeen Dagblad, “In the coming weeks, I have to get a feel for the right club.

“The door for Arsenal is definitely not closed yet. I would like to win the Champions League.

“I want to get the most out of it. That means I may have to take the next step. I’m 25 and that’s still quite young, but I’ve been around for a while.

“The years that are coming now officially belong to me, I have to spend them somewhere at a club that best suits my ambitions.”

Miedema is the FA WSL’s all-time leading goalscorer with 72 and finished the 21/22 season with 23 goals and nine assists in all competitions.
