The plans of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona for young striker Vitor Roque beyond the summer have today been thrown into fresh doubt.

As much comes amid suggestions that the Brazilian could yet be farmed out on loan for next season.

Frontman Roque, for his part, of course linked up with Xavi’s Barcelona squad this past January, after having his planned arrival in the summer moved forward by six months.

Safe to say, however, that his start to life in Spain has since proven something of a difficult one.

Roque, all told, has been afforded just a pair of La Liga starts to date, culminating in 276 minutes of football in Spain’s top-flight.

The youngster remains firmly behind the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres and João Félix in the attacking pecking order in Catalunya’s capital, with La Masia product Marc Guiu having even been preferred to Roque on occasion since his arrival.

The hope on the part of the Barcelona faithful, in turn, has long been that the coming summer will prove a decisive one in their big-money hitman becoming fully integrated into Xavi’s ranks, ahead of putting his unquestionable goalscoring talents on show across the 2024/25 campaign.

If the latest word stemming from the media this week is anything to go by, however, then as much remains far from guaranteed.

As per a report from Diario Sport, highlighting the plans of the aforementioned Marc Guiu to stay put to fight for his place at Barca next season, the possibility of Vitor Roque departing the club on loan remains a real possibility:

‘Until now, the club has maintained that there is no case, but the reality is that it cannot be ruled out that Roque leaves on loan.’

With Xavi – who has evidently yet to be won over by the winter addition to his squad – now primed to stay put for next season, Roque’s immediate future looks more uncertain than ever.
