Flamengo boss Vítor Pereira believes there is still plenty to play for in the second leg of his side’s Recopa Sudamericana tie with Independiente del Valle.
The Rio outfit will take a 1-0 deficit into the second leg showdown at the Maracanã next week, but should be confident in overturning the deficit according to their manager.
“It’s not easy to play here,” Pereira said. “The opposing team has quality. But in the first half the best chances were ours. We had two, three situations to score and I believe that if we had scored the goal it would have been a big advantage for us.
“In the second half, we tried to stay balanced, readjust, but we conceded on a free-kick. The players who joined the game, entered well. Cebola was close to scoring a goal.
“But the Recopa is still open. I’m convinced. I sincerely believe that at home we will reverse the result.”
Before the decisive second leg, Flamengo will square off with Botafogo in the Taça Guanabara. The Fire sit just four points behind Pereira’s men at the top of the table.
