What could have been a nightmare scenario for Liverpool fans ahead of the Champions League, may well have been saved by world heavyweight champion boxer Vitali Klitschko.

Reds fans, who had book their flights to the Ukranian capital via World Choice Sports, were informed on Thursday that their flights were to be cancelled.

Their were issues with securing arrival spots at Kyiv Borispyl airport ahead of the game against Real Madrid on Saturday.

Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson heard about the supporters plight and got in touch with his counterpart Klitschko.

And a report in the Liverpool Echo has claimed that the issue is now being resolved and the fans should be able to fly to the city on Friday.

It’s the latest in a long line of issues Kyiv has endured over the past few weeks.

Fans of both teams have complained that the city is not capable of hosting a major sporting event, with a lack of hotel rooms being a particular bug bare.
