Liverpool face a potentially significant squad overhaul at the end of the season, with several key players' contracts set to expire. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and club captain Virgil van Dijk are among those whose futures remain uncertain. The club may also consider selling players to finance moves for new targets.
Despite these uncertainties, Liverpool is in a commanding position in the Premier League, leading Arsenal by 12 points in Arne Slot's debut season. However, recent setbacks have dampened the mood at Anfield, as they were eliminated from all cup competitions. Paris Saint-Germain knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16 on penalties, followed by a narrow 2-1 loss to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final.
Among the out-of-contract players, some are already being linked with major European clubs. Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly close to a move to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk has emerged as a potential target for Paris Saint-Germain, the team that ended Liverpool's Champions League campaign.
Footage of van Dijk speaking to PSG officials at Anfield following the second-leg match has fueled speculation. While it could be an innocent conversation, reports from Anfield Watch suggest that the French champions have initiated talks with the Dutch international's representatives regarding a move as a free agent.
According to Anfield Watch, PSG have tabled a pre-tax offer of €80 million spread over two years, with an option for a third season and a substantial signing bonus that could bring the total package to €100 million.
Van Dijk, now 33, was expected to agree to an extension during the 2023-24 season. However, protracted negotiations have left PSG optimistic about securing one of the world's top defenders capable of remaining a dominant force for a few more years.
Liverpool fans will hope the speculation remains just that, as the potential departures of van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold could significantly impact the club's ambitions moving forward.
