Liverpool's perfect start under Arne Slot this season has had a dark cloud looming above it, and that's due to the uncertain futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

A week on from Salah's media blitz in the aftermath of the Reds' 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United, it was Van Dijk's turn to address the hot topic of his future when speaking to the media.

The club captain, who has nine months left on his current deal on Merseyside, has attracted a lot of interest from Saudi Arabia during the summer.

The 33 year-old can open negotiations with foreign clubs in January as pressure continues to mount on FSG's football CEO, Michael Edwards, and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes to secure the Dutchman's services for the coming seasons.

Van Dijk has outlined his wish to play in another World Cup and given the fury between Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman and Steven Bergwijn over the winger's move to Saudi, it seems the centre-back will have to stay in Europe for his wish to come to fruition.

"At both teams I am still Virgil van Dijk, the big leader! And I certainly want to remain that for the next two years," Van Dijk said, during media duties for his national team.

It's the clearest indication yet that the defender wants to stay at Anfield and continue playing under new manager Arne Slot.

Van Dijk's desire to stay at Liverpool will be met with the delight of the faithful who've raised concerns over potentially losing not just the best centre-back on the planet, but also their talisman in Salah and a homegrown star in Alexander-Arnold.

The defensive colossus has continued to show his worth to his team as he has lead his side to three clean sheets in their perfect start to life under Slot.

The Reds have also conceded the least expected goals too, as Slot's side continue to show their impressive ability to limit opposition's chances in front of goal.

Van Dijk et al will be hoping to make it four wins out of four with another clean sheet as they look forward to welcoming Nottingham Forest to Anfield on Sunday.
