Reds centre-back Virgil van Dijk has stated that Liverpool have improved defensively as of late due to everyone on the pitch doing their job.
Jurgen Klopp’s side collected their seventh consecutive clean sheet in all competitions on Sunday as they defeated arch-rivals Manchester United 2-0 at Anfield thanks to goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
The Reds now possess a 16-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand. Liverpool were leaking goals at the beginning of the season, but Van Dijk believes that has stopped due to everyone on the pitch chipping in defensively.
“Everyone is involved in that. We have a fantastic goalkeeper, the full-backs doing their job, our midfielders and stars obviously up front so it is a whole collective thing,” said Van Dijk, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“But obviously as a defender we are very pleased to keep clean sheets because we all know that with us if we keep a clean sheet there is a big chance to win the game so it is a good feeling.”
It is great to see that Liverpool have found that ability to produce clean sheets again. It was an aspect of Liverpool’s game that was missing at the start of the season, but that is no longer the case.
Most sides don’t even look like scoring against the Reds at the minute, which is a compliment to how good Klopp’s back four is.
