Liverpool may be without one of their stars for the first time in over a year.

Since missing the trip to Huddersfield shortly after his arrival from Southampton last season, Virgil van Dijk hasn’t missed a single Premier League match for Liverpool.

However, it appears his streak of 36 consecutive Premier League starts is in serious jeopardy.

The Dutch defender has not returned to Liverpool training since coming back from the club’s trip to Dubai as he’s been sidelined with an illness.

The 27-year-old was absent at Melwood on Monday night as Jürgen Klopp’s side trained under the lights.

Unless van Dijk appears in light training on Tuesday, he will likely be absent for the Leicester City clash at Anfield.

Dejan Lovren will likely line up at centre-back alongside Joël Matip should van Dijk not be available.

Lovren has missed Liverpool’s last two Premier League matches with a hamstring injury.

With James Milner suspended and both Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold sidelined with injuries, either Fabinho or 18-year-old Rafa Camacho will start at right-back.
