Vinicius Junior has never been a pleasant player to face. His antics on the pitch often rile up opposition players. He is often seen engaging opposition fans too, in a not-so-pleasant manner and despite his incredible talent, his admiration almost exclusively lies within Madrid.

However, the Brazilian winger has been fighting a battle against racism in La Liga for a long time now. Thus, it was extremely important for him to come out and talk about what transpired at the Santiago Bernabeu during Real Madrid’s 4-0 loss to FC Barcelona.

Barcelona players Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Ansu faced racist insults from a section of the home crowd frustrated by the loss.

Both Real Madrid and La Liga have announced that they will be opening an official investigation to address the situation and punish the offenders. On his part, Vinicius Jr. has sent a message expressing his support for his Barcelona counterparts.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Vinicius admitted that what happened at Bernabeu was regrettable. Here is what he had to say:

“It’s regrettable what happened yesterday at the Bernabéu with racist insults. There is no place for these criminals in our society. All my support to Lamine, Ansu, and Raphinha. I know that Madrid and the police will do things to identify and punish the guilty!!”

Kudos to Vinicius Junior for coming out with this message. It is important to speak up when it matters the most. For a fanbase that knows what their own players go through everywhere in La Liga, the attitude from this particular section of the crowd was disappointing.

It is understandable that home fans don’t necessarily take a humiliation of that sort from the arch-rivals well but there is a point where you draw the line. There is no place for racism in the sport. Let’s hope La Liga conducts a thorough investigation and the offenders receive the deserved punishment.
