Vinicius Jr says racism is ‘normal’ in La Liga after suffering more abuse during Real Madrid’s game in Valencia | OneFootball

Vinicius Junior has issued a strong statement after he was racially abused during Real Madrid’s 1-0 loss at Valencia.

Los Blancos were a goal down when the 22-year-old was subjected to racist chants at the Mestalla Stadium.

He tried to bring the referee’s attention to supporters making discriminatory comments, which led to the game being stopped for several minutes.

Fans were warned the match would be suspended if they didn’t change their behaviour.

The game restarted but Vinicius was sent off on 97 minutes for slapping Hugo Duro’s face.

The Brazil international hit back at the racists on social media after the game and blamed La Liga for failing to act.

Vinicius has been facing abusive chants on an alarmingly regular basis this season.

He has been one of the most important members of Carlo Ancelotti’s side, netting 23 goals in 54 total appearances.

He has been excellent since making his debut in September 2018, making over 120 goal contributions in 224 senior appearances.

La Liga has vowed to take ‘appropriate legal action’ after investigating the incident, but it remains to be seen how effective they will be in preventing racist abuse.
