Multiple sources in Italy claim Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr and Milan keeper Mike Maignan called Napoli defender Juan Jesus after a ruling that found Francesco Acerbi not guilty of racist abuse towards the Brazilian centre-back.
Acerbi has escaped a ban of at least ten matches given that authorities found insufficient evidence that the Italy international racially insulted his opponent Juan Jesus during a Serie A game between Inter and Napoli at San Siro earlier this month.
The ruling sparked furious reactions from Juan Jesus and his club Napoli. The Partenopei said they would no longer participate in institutional activities against racism and would continue promoting them autonomously.
According to several reports in Italy, including Sky Sport Italia, Il Mattino and Il Corriere dello Sport, Juan Jesus has received several calls from fellow footballers, including Milan keeper Mike Maignan and Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, who wanted to show their support.
Both players have been actively fighting racism this season. The Milan keeper left the pitch during an away Serie A game against Udinese in December after racial abuse from some home supporters, while Vini Jr. has been challenging racist fans in Spanish stadiums. The Brazilian broke into tears during a Brazil press conference last week while talking about racism.
