As reported by Fabrice Hawkins, Vinícius Jr. (24), the strong favourite to succeed Lionel Messi and win this year’s Ballon d’Or, is set to miss out on the prestigious prize. The Brazilian, as well as Real Madrid’s hierarchy, have reacted furiously.

The winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or has been kept a close secret, unlike in previous years, however, Vinícius Jr., having led Real Madrid to the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles, was the outright favourite to pick up the award during Monday night’s ceremony in Paris.

However, Hawkins reported earlier on Monday that the player’s entourage, as well as everyone around Real Madrid, had become “convinced” that Vinícius Jr. would not win the Ballon d’Or. Fabrizio Romano understands that the player will now not even travel to Paris for the ceremony, whilst Florentino Perez, Carlo Ancelotti, and Jude Bellingham are also set to join the boycott.

“Furious”, according to Hawkins, Real Madrid’s directors have now cancelled the flight that was meant to take them to the French capital for this evening’s ceremony.
